OKC Travel

Ahead of Bulldog softball’s first-ever trip to the Women’s College World Series, we asked a few MSU alums who are former OKC-area residents for their recommendations on how to best enjoy the trip to Oklahoma City.

Getting there 🚙

If you’re driving through the Delta, be sure to stop at the Welcome Center in Lake Village, AR, just over the Mississippi River Bridge. Restrooms are clean and the ladies behind the desk are happy to answer any questions you might have.

Breakfast ☕️

Neighborhood Jam: This is a must-do in OKC. Incredible breakfast menu and located in vibrant Midtown. Might we recommend The Heap!

Kitchen No. 324: A slightly more upscale spot to grab breakfast downtown. You’ll want to get a cinnamon roll and an iced latte.

HoneyBunny: Huge biscuit sandwiches perfect for breakfast or lunch.

Waffle Champion: Waffle fries, chicken & waffles, waffle sandwiches and traditional waffles with a variety of toppings. What more could you ask for?

Lunch/Dinner 🍽️

NashBird Chicken: As the name might warn, stop here if you want a little Nashville heat.

S&B's Burger Joint: A local sit-down chain that is perfect for a quick burger and fries.

Hall’s Pizza Kitchen: Fun vibe and is walkable to many nearby activities.

Charleston’s: Their version of Harvey’s. Great appetizers, great vibes and honey drizzled croissants.

Empire Slice House: A great spot in the eclectic Plaza District for a slice or two. Be sure to grab some ice cream at Roxy’s afterwards down the street.

Red Rock Canyon Grill: More on the pricey side, but you’ll have a great meal with great views of scenic Lake Hefner.

Mahogany Steakhouse: Definitely on the pricey side, this will be where you can celebrate a Bulldog victory with a prime cut.

The Collective: A food hall-style venue, this is a fun collection of food stands with open seating perfect for small or big groups.

Fassler Hall: A German-inspired bar where you can grab a bite and a pint.

Braum’s: Braum’s more than lives up to the hype. Grab a burger and their infamous cherry limeade or get a milkshake or a mix (concrete) and you won’t be sorry. If you’re staying for a few days, you can get your groceries here too!

Barrios: This is potentially the best restaurant in OKC. Enjoy fajitas and more Mexican dishes on their outdoor patio. Legend has it that Russell Westbrook always had a table reserved here after a Thunder game.

Activities 🚶

OKC National Memorial & Museum: Any visitor to OKC must plan a visit here. It is a poignant and incredibly well-presented memorial to the OKC bombing of 1995.

Scissortail Park: A recently completed public park just north of Bricktown. Enjoy nature walks and food trucks all with great views of the OKC skyline.

Martin Park Nature Center: Enjoy great walking trails to work off your meal on the way back from Red Rock Canyon Grill.

National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum: An OKC staple near Devon Park, the Cowboy Museum is a great, mostly-indoor experience that showcases Western culture.

OKC Zoo: Just across the street from Devon Park, the OKC Zoo is a great kid-friendly spot to spend an afternoon. Be sure to see the red pandas!

Walk through Heritage Hills: Located just west of Midtown, one of our favorite activities is to park in the historic Heritage Hills neighborhood and take a stroll to admire the grand houses.

Commonplace Books: You can stop by this great bookstore before or after your walk through Heritage Hills.

First Americans Museum: This new museum tells the story of Native American nations native to and transplanted to the Oklahoma territory.

Okana water park: A brand-new water park next door to the First Americans Museum is a great place to beat the heat.

Plenty Mercantile: We always make a point to stop at this fun shop full of Oklahoma-made products for all ages and even pets.

Dust Bowl: Think of TopGolf but bowling. Enjoy appetizers, a classic Oklahoma onion burger or some totchos while trying to knock down the pins.
