200 for Woo

200 for Woo

Woos

Since October 2008, Stephen and Ying Woo have been two constants at every MSU football game. Remarkably, the mother and son duo have attended every single MSU football game in that span, both home and away. Even further, Stephen Woo has only missed five games total since graduating in 1995. The Woos have witnessed many milestones in MSU Football, including the first #1 ranking in the school’s history and Mike Leach’s first game and win versus LSU.

A 2021 edition of Alumnus magazine featured the streak, when it had just crossed the 150 games mark. The article stated, “It’s one of the longest known attendance streaks among the Bulldog faithful."

The article also revealed the streak’s humble beginnings. “'It just kind of happened,' (Stephen) Woo said of the impressive feat. (...) 'A friend sold me her season tickets when she decided she wasn’t going to use them.'"

Of his mom, he recalled: “She said, ‘You know I don’t have anything to do. I’m just going to tag along.'” Nearly 16 years later, she's still going strong!

With the Woos’ streak hitting 200 on 9/21/24, we wanted to look back at a few highlights from the streak's first 199 games. One could argue that they have borne witness to the most successful era in Bulldog gridiron history.

While football is one way the pair shows their school pride, the Woos are avid supporters of MSU baseball and both Bulldog basketball teams. Additionally, Stephen Woo has been a dedicated booster of the MSU spirit squads.

Since moving to Memphis after graduation, the younger Woo has been an active member of the Memphis Maroon Club for over 20 years and has served two terms on the MSU Alumni Association’s national board of directors.

In that Alumnus article, he encouraged Bulldogs to get involved with their local alumni chapter based on his experiences. Woo said, “I think it really starts with the local chapters. They’re great at getting our local alumni involved and being a link to MSU.”

In a journey that has visited Provo, UT, Miami, FL, Boston, MA and Tucson, AZ (just to name a few), the Woos are showing no signs of slowing down. No matter where the Bulldogs take the field, you can count on Stephen and Ying Woo being there wearing their Maroon and White proudly.

Here's to the next 200!
