Meet MSU’s Student Recruiters

Mississippi State University employs a team of dedicated staff members who traverse the country spreading the maroon and white spirit to incoming and prospective students. The primary responsibility of the recruiting staff is to encourage the state and nation’s most talented students to choose MSU as their destination for the pursuit of higher education.

Admissions counselors are divided into specific territories that they serve. All of MSU’s recruiting staff is available to answer questions concerning academics, student housing, campus life and activities, tuition, how to apply, and more.

Dan Coleman, Director of Student Recruitment (jdc20@msstate.edu): Oversees all aspects of student recruiting and the Roadrunners.

Erron Flowers, Campus Visitation Coordinator (enf13@saffairs.msstate.edu): On campus counselor and contact person for all students who live in states and counties not actively recruited.  Coordinates campus visits.

T.J. Walker, Coordinator of Recruitment Activities (twalker@saffairs.msstate.edu): Coordinates high school and community college bus tours, and "Bulldog for A Day" - half day group campus visit program. Oversees alumni recruiting.

Mississippi Counselors


Heath Barret, Transfer Recruitment Coordinator (whb79@msstate.edu): Serves as a transfer counselor and primary recruiter for community and junior colleges in North Mississippi, including: Coahoma, EMCC, Holmes, Itawamba, Meridian, Mississippi Delta, Northeast and Northwest. He also covers all transfer inquiries from Tennessee.

Kelty Bise, Admissions Counselor (kbise@saffairs.msstate.edu): Serving Mississippi counties including: Choctaw, Winston, Noxubee, Neshoba, Kemper, Lauderdale, Jasper, Clarke and Wayne.

Jonathan Barden, Admissions Counselor (jkb234@msstate.edu): Serves Mississippi counties including: Desoto and Tunica. Also serving Memphis, Tenn., Missouri and Arkansas.

Lynn Mullen, Transfer Admissions Counselor (ldm82@msstate.edu): Serves as a transfer counselor and primary recruiter for community and junior colleges in South Mississippi, including: Copiah-Lincoln, East Central, Hinds, Jones, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Pearl River and Southwest. This counselor also covers all transfer inquiries from Alabama.

Daniel Wynn, Admissions Counselor (drw161@msstate.edu): Serves Mississippi counties including: Hinds, Madison, and Rankin (except Jackson Public Schools), Leake, Newton, Scott, Simpson, Smith, Copiah, Lincoln, Yazoo and Holmes (Benton Academy).

Bailey Owens, Admissions Counselor (bowens@saffairs.msstate.edu): Serves Mississippi counties including: Adams, Amite, Claiborne, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Marion, Pike, Quitman, Walthall, Warren and Wilkinson. Also serving North Louisiana areas including Monroe, Ruston and Shreveport.

Shelley Pensworth, Admissions Counselor (srp142@msstate.edu): Serves Mississippi counties including: Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Clay, Grenada, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Lowndes, Montgomery, Marshall, Monroe, Oktibbeha, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Panola, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, Webster and Yalobusha.

Brooke Collins, Admissions Counselor (): Primary recruiter for Jackson Public Schools and assists in Madison County at Canton High School. Serves Mississippi counties including: Attala, Bolivar, Coahoma, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Leflore, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie and Washington.

Matt McLaurin, Admissions Counselor (wmm113@msstate.edu): Serves Mississippi counties including: George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, Perry and Stone. She also covers all of Louisiana (excluding Monroe, Ruston and Shreveport), Mobile, Ala., and Florida.

Alabama Counselors


Philip Moss, Assistant Director, Alabama Recruitment (pfm1@msstate.edu): Serves as out of state recruiter in Alabama, primary areas of responsibility in Birmingham, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa.

Jaye Johnson, Assistant Director, Alabama Recruitment (jnj25@msstate.edu): Serves as out of state recruiter in North Alabama, as well as the Chattanooga, Tenn. area.
