SEC commissioner headlines 2013 leadership conference
This February, the MSU Alumni Association hosted representatives from chapters across the nation at the annual leadership conference. Headlining this year’s event as the keynote speaker was Mike Slive, commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.
Held in Colvard Student Union, the Feb. 2 conference also featured reports from the university provost and executive vice president, Dr. Jerry Gilbert, the newly named director of University Relations, Sid Salter, as well as a number of MSU staff members and association volunteers. Dr. Roy Ruby, vice president for student affairs emeritus and dean of the College of Education emeritus, was the luncheon speaker. The National Alumni Association also held its annual business meeting during the conference.
“The leadership conference is an excellent way for our volunteers to connect with other alumni leaders and learn best practices for organizing and running a chapter,” stated Dr. Jimmy Abraham, associate vice president for development and alumni and executive director of the MSU Alumni Association. “This annual event is not only informative and helpful, but is also a great gathering of so many loyal alumni and friends of MSU.”
Conference attendees and guests attended the annual awards program Friday night, where MSU honored some of its most outstanding alumni. The night began in the Hunter Henry Center with a reception featuring music by Bill Cooke. The dinner and awards presentation followed in Colvard Student Union, with an after dinner party back at the Hunter Henry Center. Guests enjoyed celebrating with live music by the band Kannawermz.
