Mississippi State University announces an open, nationwide search to recruit a new executive director of the Alumni Association and invites nominations and applications for this significant leadership opportunity. The university seeks an outstanding next executive director who can build upon the foundation of achievement and quality established by previous leaders of this exemplary organization. A demonstrated, successful record of visionary leadership with a particular focus on volunteer management within non-profit or membership driven organizations; proven organizational, communication and planning skills; a vision for the future of alumni relations and engagement at MSU; strong communication skills that project charisma through interpersonal relations, public speaking, writing and social media; a keen business acumen regarding new sources of revenue and sponsorships; and a strong vision for alumni engagement in and support of the priorities of the university are all attributes expected in the next executive director. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a dedication to Mississippi State’s land-grant mission; a commitment to diversity; an ability to connect with the various MSU constituents, including faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university; as well as possess the courage to work effectively with the all-volunteer board to affect change within the Alumni Association that reflects the best interests of Mississippi State University. It is required that applicants possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution degree, while additional academic credentials are preferred.

Mississippi State University, founded in 1878, is a comprehensive doctoral, research land-grant university with very high research activity as classified by the Carnegie Foundation. The university has a statewide enrollment of over 20,000 students. MSU has traditional strengths in agriculture, engineering and science but now is a comprehensive university with a diverse array of programs in the arts, humanities and social sciences. MSU significantly impacts the economic development and well-being of the state of Mississippi through its extensive research programs and its statewide network of agricultural research and extension centers, branch stations, and county offices, with a presence in every county of the state.

MSU has more than 1,100 full-time faculty members and more than 4,000 total full-time employees, and a total operating budget of nearly $580 million. MSU also holds the community engagement designation from the Carnegie Foundation and was recently recognizes by the Wall Street Journal as one of the three best universities in the countries when measured by “return on investment.”

Nominations, inquiries and applications may be submitted electronically in total confidence. Review of applications will begin immediately, with applications accepted until the position is filled. However, in order to be assured full consideration by the search committee, the application should be received no later than August 1, 2013.
